Treat Yourself this Galentine’s Day with a Girls’ Trip to Goodwill
Whether you’re in a relationship, single and ready to mingle or perfectly content with where you’re at on the relationship grid, one thing’s for certain. Valentine’s Day is swiftly approaching and it’s time to start making plans to celebrate with the person – or people – you love. Every year I love throwing a party with my sisters and closest girlfriends to celebrate what we mean to each other. Valentine’s Day – or Galentine’s Day is the perfect time to gather your best gals and treat yourselves.
On my last single Galentine’s Day, I bought myself a nice bottle of red wine, a box of chocolates and some roses. My roommate came home and wondered if there was a secret admirer she didn’t know about and I informed her that I was treating myself. I am a firm believer in self-care and self-love, and know that we don’t celebrate ourselves as often as we should. Instead, on a day-to-day basis we’re our harshest critics, constantly pushing ourselves to do better so we can try to succeed at what’s important to us. But once in a while, it’s necessary to take a step back and give yourself some pampering. Bonus points if this pampering helps others in your community as well.
Instead of throwing another party this year, I decided to take the fun of spoiling myself and my friends a bit more out of the box. We decided to treat ourselves to a thrifting trip to our local Goodwill that resulted in a fun girls’ afternoon and lots of great statement piece finds. The ultimate steal of the day was a gorgeous Missoni sweater tank with gold embroidered signature zig-zagged thread throughout it. It was in perfect condition, looked unworn and had a regular retail value that was upwards of $150. My best friend picked it up off the rack and let me try it on, saying how it would complement my new haircut and natural hair color. Thanks to her sharp eye, I purchased it for $7.99, which was such an amazing deal!
In the spirit of Galentine’s Day, my friend found this adorable peachy pink wool coat, which looked fantastic with her green eyes and light complexion. We had so much fun trying on the shipment the store had recently received of evening gowns and gorgeous Rachel Zoe attire – brand new with tags still attached! The entire collection ranged from $155-450, and Goodwill was selling the brand-new pieces for $18-35. It’s finds like those that make me think, how could anyone pay full retail price?
We ended up leaving the store with a fantastic haul. I found this adorable Pull and Bear sweater – which was majorly discounted (thanks to 50% off blue color tags day) and I snagged for $3.99. I also scored the cute off the shoulder Madewell top I’m wearing in the above photo, which I’ll probably wear for Valentine’s Day. In total, we purchased around 10 items, and didn’t even spend close to $50. Our Galentine’s Day Goodwill shopping trip was a fun, cost-effective excuse to spend the day together, enjoy each other’s company and revamp our wardrobes. My friend lives in Chicago, so we don’t see each other very often and this early Galentine’s Day shopping trip was the perfect way to catch up! Not to mention all of the proceeds spent at Goodwill go back to the organization to help others in our community succeed in their jobs by providing training programs and additional job opportunities. Truly a win-win situation!
Whatever your plans are on Valentine’s Day, don’t forget to schedule something special for your girlfriends and yourself. It can be any day of the month where you put your focus on celebrating yourself and your friends for being the special people that you are. Take some time to bask in self-love and care, and don’t forget to treat yourself along the way!
