Empowering veteran and underserved farmers and ranchers of Colorado

Goodwill of Colorado’s FarmAble Program provides practical business planning education and individualized technical assistance to beginning farmers, veteran farmers, and farmers facing barriers across Colorado. FarmAble is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture through the Outreach and Assistance for Socially Disadvantaged and Veteran Farmers and Ranchers Program, also known as the 2501 Program. The program helps producers move from idea to action through structured education, one-on-one support, and practical guidance in planning, operations, market strategy, and funding readiness.

From Field to Funded

From Field to Funded is FarmAble’s core training series and is designed for producers who are starting, refining an existing operation, or working toward a more formal farm business plan. Through this class series, participants are guided through the major sections of a farm business plan, including business concept development, operations planning, market research, organization and management, sales and marketing, and funding preparation. Each session builds on the last, so participants leave with a stronger, more organized business plan that reflects how their farm will actually function and what they need to be prepared for growth, technical assistance, or financing conversations.

How We Help

In addition to the From Field to Funded class series, FarmAble provides individualized technical assistance to help producers work through the specific decisions and challenges shaping their operation. Support may include one-on-one business planning assistance, help identifying products and services, sales channels, pricing logic, and marketing strategy, guidance on land use, infrastructure, labor, production planning, risk management, organization and management, and preparation for conversations with USDA, lenders, and other agricultural service providers. FarmAble also helps producers identify regulatory, licensing, food safety, or planning items they may still need to confirm before moving forward. Support may be provided through workshops, phone calls, virtual meetings, email, and direct follow-up based on producer need and program capacity.

Who We Serve

FarmAble primarily serves beginning farmers, veteran farmers, and farmers facing barriers to entering or expanding agriculture. The program is intended for producers who may need more accessible, step-by-step support in building a farm business, understanding available resources, and making realistic operational and financial decisions.
