Goodwill of Colorado Celebrates National Thrift Shop Day on August 17

Shoppers invited to annual Chic Boutique pop-up shop on August 16 and 17

Colorado Springs, Colo. – August 14, 2024 – National Thrift Shop Day was created to call attention to the important role that local nonprofit organizations like Goodwill of Colorado play in helping protect our environment by keeping donated items out of landfills and in the circular economy.

Last year, Goodwill of Colorado received, recycled or repurposed more than 248 million pounds of items generously donated by individuals in our local communities. The impact of these donations is far-reaching—providing individuals with access to life-changing job training and placement.

To celebrate National Thrift Shop Day, this Friday and Saturday, Goodwill of Colorado is holding its annual Chic Boutique pop-up shop at Garden of the Gods Resort and Club’s Strata Integrated Wellness and Spa, 3314 Mesa Road in Colorado Springs. Chic Boutique is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on August 16 and 17.

Chic Boutique offers shoppers a highly curated collection of donated designer fashion, accessories and home décor at affordable prices. Proceeds support Goodwill of Colorado’s education and employment programs that strengthen local communities by empowering women with free job training, such as its LIFT IT program. This free 14-week training prepares graduates to pass IT certification exams including CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+ and Cyber Security Analyst (CySA+*) which can help them get hired for highly desirable IT or cybersecurity jobs.

From August 17-25, Goodwill of Colorado is also hosting a “Signature Style Challenge” to showcase the unique personal style of the community here in Colorado. If shoppers post photos or videos of their Goodwill thrifted finds on Instagram and tag @GoodwillColorado, they will be entered in a drawing to win a Goodwill gift card.

To celebrate National Thrift Shop Day, Goodwill of Colorado’s nearly 50 local thrift shops will be offering shoppers a variety of specially curated displays.
