Shane’s Goodwill Staffing Success Story
Shane was diagnosed with Tourette’s Syndrome at age eight and was plagued with involuntary muscle and vocal tics. He had a difficult time in school—often being picked on by other students, resulting in anxiety attacks and social withdrawal. His mom, a single parent who had devoted her life to caring for him and who had mental health issues of her own, was understandably concerned about Shane’s long-term well-being.
Despite the challenges he faced, Shane was determined to have a career and support himself. He got his GED and launched his professional journey in retail. He enjoyed his job, but still struggled with anxiety in the high-pressure retail environment, and decided to make a career change. His mom had recently completed an assignment for Goodwill Staffing, and thought Shane would be a great match for some of Staffing’s temporary job placements.
During his interview, Shane’s professionalism and his honesty about the challenges he had faced deeply impressed the Goodwill Staffing team. Given what Shane had shared about wanting to help others, they thought he would be a great fit for an opening with Recovery Village. He was hired on the spot and is the happiest he’s ever been. “It’s a blessing to have a chance now to bless others with my work and experiences. Goodwill Staffing was the only agency [that] took a chance on me. I’m truly grateful to the team,” he said.
