Meet the Team: Emily Lewis, Possibilities Instructor
Emily Lewis is the Classroom Instructor for Goodwill’s Possibilities. Possibilities is a day program for adults with physical or developmental disabilities focused on giving individuals the tools to achieve independence and self-sufficiency. As Classroom Instructor, Emily teaches participants about the world around them, from how technology works to how money is made.
When discussing her job, Emily says, “My goal is to make the world less mysterious and more interesting!”
Before joining Goodwill, Emily ran a nonprofit for at-risk adults but left for the opportunity to work at Possibilities. Emily always admired the Possibilities program and recalled, “From the moment I learned about this incredible program, I knew this was where I needed to be.”
Every day Emily has special moments with the Possibilities participants, like when a very shy, nonverbal participant picked her to walk them out to the bus. Because every day is different and our participants continue to grow, Emily looks forward to educating and engaging their minds while deepening her understanding of how to keep them active and ready to learn.
Goodwill’s Possibilities is a first-of-its-kind adult day program focused on person-centered skill development and community inclusion conducted in an innovative town setting. The Possibilities simulated community spans 14,000 square feet and includes 11 unique centers, each focused on building new skills to increase independence for individuals with emotional, physical and cognitive disabilities.
