Meet the Team: Kevin Johnson, IT Training Instructor

Kevin Johnson is the LIFT IT Training Instructor for Goodwill’s Colorado Springs Campus. LIFT IT Training provides free training for four CompTIA certifications: A+, Network+, Security+ and Cyber Security Analyst (CySA+). As the LIFT IT Training Instructor, Kevin helps guide students through a vast swath of technical information which culminates in earning credentials critical to the IT field.

Prior to joining the Goodwill team, Kevin owned and operated Potato Potato, a popular food truck in Colorado Springs for nearly seven years. Potato Potato was impacted by the pandemic and Kevin decided to re-enter the IT field where he worked 15 years prior. This decision led to Kevin enrolling in the LIFT IT Training program as a student to earn his Network+ and Security+ certification. Following Kevin’s certifications, the current LIFT Instructor was promoted to a new role and encouraged Kevin to apply for the instructor position. Shortly after, Kevin joined the LIFT IT Training team and has been with the program for nearly a year and a half now. Kevin is still furthering his IT education through LIFT by studying for the CySA+ certification.

Kevin cannot pick a single favorite memory from his time at Goodwill, but he is continually reminded of the intrinsic benefits of direct service through his job.

“When a student earns their credentials and lands that first job, I celebrate alongside them.” Kevin says. “While it’s their hard work and determination that made those goals reality, I feel pride in knowing that what we do here has powerful and long-lasting impact on the individuals we serve and the community in which we live.”

Kevin looks forward to helping more students achieve certifications with the addition of the CompTIA CySA+ certificate to LIFT’s offerings.
