How To Upgrade Your Thanksgiving Outfit With Goodwill
Thanksgiving is the time to gather together with your loved ones and catch up, exchange memories of good times past and eat a lot of good food. While your gathering is likely going to be kept to your closest friends and family this year, you likely still want to wear an outfit that’s both chic yet comfortable enough to fit a few extra slices of pumpkin pie with the seams staying intact.
Thanksgiving is a great time to show gratitude for all the wonderful things in your life by giving back – which makes shopping at your local Goodwill the perfect opportunity to not only upgrade your turkey (or in some cases tofurkey) day attire, but also to help out others in your community. Every 30 seconds of every business day, a person served by Goodwill earns a good job. Thus by supporting the Goodwill organization, you’re expanding employment opportunities and career advancement to your neighbors.
As far as attire goes, for many Thanksgiving is one of the most casual holidays. It’s not uncommon for people to hide under loose flowy blouses and dresses, oversized sweaters and forgiving skirt bands. Gone are the days where it’s necessary to unbutton your pants at the dinner table after feasting on all the mashed potatoes. Here are some other options you can take advantage of this season without breaking the bank.
- Chunky Knits and Accessories

One of the best parts about fall is the influx of chunky knit sweaters that hit the Goodwill racks. You can find so many amazing knit options in every material imaginable – including cashmere – for incredibly affordable prices. Pair a cute slightly oversized sweater with your favorite pair of leggings or comfy jeans and complete the look with some fun costume jewelry. A pair of statement earrings or a statement necklace can go a long way in making your look more cohesive and on trend. (Bonus points if you manage to pull of a matching mommy and me look!)
- Palazzo Pants and Heels

A fall trend that I’m loving right now is that palazzo pants are back in style – the loose cotton-like pants that are stretchy and wide legged at the bottom. You can find them in a variety of colors and they look great with a fitted shirt and pair of heels. Plus, talk about non-constricting holiday attire, these are the perfect way for you to hide that food baby during the holidays, allowing you to stay comfortable even as you plow through the delicious dessert options.
- Dress and Turtleneck

It’s not too late to repurpose your summer dresses into a stylish fall look. Layered strappy dresses are still a great option for fall, with a fitted turtleneck underneath or a flowy cardigan on top to complete the boho chic look. I particularly love this look when the dress is layered on top of a turtleneck and is past the knees in length. Not only will it keep you a bit warmer but it also plays a nice contrast in shape to the fitted shirt underneath it. Finish up the look with a strappy pair of flats or low-heeled booties. Talk about a comfy chic look!
- Jeggings and a Ruffle Blouse

Of course, I would be remiss to exclude jeggings from this list of outfits after the denim gods were so kind to provide a flexible option that makes getting dressed in the morning a little less intimidating. It’s never a bad option to toss on your favorite pair of jeggings with a slightly dressier flowy ruffle blouse. Complete this look with a pair of statement earrings and a statement ring and you’ll be good to go.
