ReHire Gives Woman A Helping Hand
Having experienced homelessness and addiction for the past 9 years, Elizabeth Owens was ready to make a positive change in her life. Originally from Kansas, Elizabeth- who goes by the nickname Libby- moved to Colorado when she was 9 years old after the passing of her mother. Libby grew up feeling bullied for the problems she experienced in her life and this ultimately led her down a rough path.
While in a sober living home, Libby was referred to Goodwill’s ReHire program and quickly excelled in the program. Since joining in August of 2022, Libby has turned her life around for the better! She recently celebrated 6 months of sobriety and is gainfully employed. Within a month in the program, Libby was offered a permanent position with Goodwill’s West store in Colorado Springs. While in the ReHire program, Libby also took advantage of Goodwill’s Micro-Credentials training program and received her Customer Service and Sales Retail Certifications. Her hard work and dedication certainly paid off!
Libby says that the ReHire program gave her a helping hand when she really needed it in order to be successful. Goodwill and ReHire supported Libby by helping her with bus passes to get to and from work, providing rental assistance, and the opportunity earn key certifications to level up her job skills. Without the love and support she received while in the program, Libby believes she wouldn’t be where she is today. The team at ReHire is so happy for Libby and all she has been able to accomplish and would like to officially welcome her to the Goodwill family!
